Southwest Airlines Ends Open Seating, Introduces Assigned Seats

Southwest Airlines is making a historic shift to assigned seating, allowing the low-fare carrier to charge a premium for certain seats.

Additionally, Southwest will introduce overnight “red-eye” flights to enhance efficiency by maximizing aircraft utilization.

The airline stated that customers have been demanding these changes.

According to Southwest, the primary reason passengers switch to competitors is the current open seating policy. This move not only addresses customer preferences but also provides an opportunity for the airline to increase revenue by charging more for specific seats.
